- Open Question: Baby is quiet during day, parties at night?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 18:47:08 GMT)
Prenatal : On Saturday my husband and I went to a prenatal class at the hospital and learned about kick counts, ten in two hours. Well, I have an anterior placenta and haven't been able to feel much at six months and was a bit concerned. Then last night I was awake around four o'clock and I was aware of the baby moving more than all the other times combined! It was so wonderful. Now it's daytime and she's back to her usual mellow mode. So, if you're in a situation where the baby seems to be most active when you'd normally be asleep, how do you handle kick counts? (For those who might suggest making her move on cue, drinks such as orange juice, cold water, pop etc. don't seem to have an effect.) Thanks!
- Open Question: How long before ttc should you start taking prenatal vitamins?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 16:44:45 GMT)
Prenatal : Would it be bad to take them for many months--if we don't conceive right away, do I just keep taking them till we do and beyond?
- Open Question: Prenatal Pills? Iron pills?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 16:28:30 GMT)
Prenatal : I'm taking prenatal pills but is it neccessary to take other pills with them like Iron pills? I've heard them can be very hard on your stomach like constipation. Is this true? My dr. appiontment isn't for 2 weeks so I don't know if i should take iron pills also. Please help!!!!
- Open Question: Heart Burn Relief Durring Pregnancy, What Worked/Works Best For You?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 15:06:41 GMT)
Prenatal : I'm 34 weeks along with my first, a little boy.... and this heartburn is killing me! I don't drink caffeine anymore or carbonation, and I don't eat spicy foods or anything I can think of that would cause it...I stopped laying down till at least an hour after I eat, and I LOVE milk, I take my prenatal vitamins with food... but this heartburn just never goes away! Ive done everything the doctor told me to do that would help me to stop getting it, and I take Tums but that is a very temporary relief, within 10 minutes it is back! Milk, bread, crackers, nothing seems to help! Anyone have anything that may help, please!
- Open Question: what would you do if you were ttc?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 14:47:27 GMT)
Prenatal : I have been ttc for 11 months now....I was on the pill for 5 years before this. In march I started to chart to see if my luteal phase was short. At that time I started taking B6, B12 and a B-complex to help lengthen it. In June I also started taking Vitex to supplement the B6. In august I had my first 28 day cycle since I went off the pills (the rest have been 24-26). My luteal phase in august was 14 days...the month before I think it was 12-13. Things looked very hopeful this month...I O'd day 14 with a little spotting (which they say means you're very fertile), I had a little spotting day 22, 24, and 26 and now AF is here today on day 27. My question and my ultimate debate now is do I keep trying the B vitamins and Vitex or do I give my body a break and only take my prenatal (which I've also been taking all this time). I am going to the Gyno in Oct for my yearly and figured if I wasn't prego by then than I would talk w/ her about my options. I just don't know what to do now.
- Open Question: "dark" pregnancy?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 05:45:48 GMT)
Prenatal : How common is it for a woman to forego any and all prenatal care in the united states? Any idea how many women out there are just having pregnancies and giving birth without ever being "seen" for their pregnancies?? What's the success rate on this one? And don't worry I'm not doing it, I was just wondering if women are still doing that or not... No need to get in a huff, I'm just asking a question. And what is it called when a woman doesn't get any ultrasounds/tests/ etc.?? Is it called a "dark pregnancy"? Thanks for looking.
- Open Question: Is it safe to do prenatal yoga without an instructor (like... straight from a DVD)?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 05:35:55 GMT)
Prenatal : The exercise seems pretty basic, but I've heard that you shouldn't do yoga without a coach, as doing things wrongly might cause injury. I'm 36 weeks by the way, almost full term and have been doing the DVD for a while. Yeah well, I'm sure men won't understand pregnancy related worries and stuff.
- Open Question: Where do women go to get prenatal care and give birth if they don't have insurance or a job?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 04:31:19 GMT)
Prenatal : No family, no job, and no insurance. Where do these women in these situations go for help??
- Open Question: Do midwives provide good care?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 04:10:08 GMT)
Prenatal : Why would a low risk maternity patient choose their family doctor over a midwife for prenatal care?
- Open Question: All this talk of prenatal vitamins...?
(Mon, 17 Sep 2007 03:12:09 GMT)
Prenatal : I'm 26 weeks pregnant. I canNOT take my prenatals. The doctor has written me prescriptions for multiple kinds, and every kind, makes me gag/vomit. In my head, it's better to not take them and keep what nourishment I have, down, rather than take them and then vomit everything back up. I take my Flintstones religiously, though. And I guess they're better than not taking ANY, right? Just all this talk of prenatal vitamins make me feel like I'm already a bad mother or something.
- Resolved Question: Please see the last questions I asked! Just looking for info or advise.?
(Sun, 16 Sep 2007 19:59:26 GMT)
Prenatal : 3 weeks and 4 days pregnant and am not finding too much info because somehow I DID find out very early. (Earlier than most would be able to at this point). I just wanted some advise for what to expect or wanted to here from woman who had early symptoms as well and what it was like for them. I am calling my Doc. on Monday to schedule my 1st appointment. They can not do to much for me right now though because it is still soo early, except to put me on prenatal.
- Resolved Question: Do prenatal vitamins REALLY grow your hair?
(Sun, 16 Sep 2007 19:46:39 GMT)
Prenatal : Or does it just make it healthy? Doestaking them make you sick? Are their any other vitamins that will help?
- Open Question: 13 weeks and still sick?
(Sun, 16 Sep 2007 17:28:40 GMT)
Prenatal : I woke up this morning feeling ok. I ate two pieces of toast and still felt fine. I then took my prenatal and calcium pills (milk makes me sick) and now I feel like throwing up. I have been sick since week 5 with throwing up mainly in the morning. Could the prenatal pills be the cause? Can I take other vitamins like the Flinstones which will work the same as the prenatal pills? Should I start taking the pills before I go to bed? Well, I have been taking the vitamins after I eat breakfast. I have an appointment this Wednesday, so I'll see what my OB says. Do you have to take the prentals throughout the whole pregnancy? I forgot if I did the same with my son.
- Open Question: Is illicit drug screening routine for pregnant woman when seeking prenatal care?
(Sun, 16 Sep 2007 16:14:57 GMT)
Prenatal : Or, is it done on a case-by-case basis? I personally was not (to my knowledge) drug tested, but I am curious. I am pretty sure that it is Federal law that you know and give consent before you are tested. Anyone know anything about this?
- Open Question: Are kids chewable vitamins that contain phenylalanine safe for a pregnant woman?
(Sun, 16 Sep 2007 15:41:09 GMT)
Prenatal : I'm 13 w pregn. and having a horrible time with nausea. I've always had problems swallowing pills, I usually get syrup or inyections.I found out I was pregnant when I was 5 w, and I had been taking these kids multivitamins. When the dr. confirmed I was pregnant at 7 w I told her I couldn't take prenatal tablets because they're so big and make me vomit even if I crush them. She said that I should take them anyways but if not take the double dose of kids multivitamin. I kept taking them but I forgot to tell her about the phenylalanine. Then I told my mom and she freaked out and called her dr. and she told me to stop taking those kids pills and go to GNC and get prenatal pills, and stop making a big deal out of it. I had been having nausea, but it was getting better, but after I got this GNC vitamins the nausea came back, and much worse so I got other prenatal vit. and again having nausea. So now I'm just taking chewable caltrate,I want to know if the kids vits w pheny will damage my kid
- Open Question: how can i be sure my baby is still alive and well?? NEED MANY ANSWERS PLEASE!!!?
(Sun, 16 Sep 2007 01:53:07 GMT)
Prenatal : I had a normal ultrasound at 8 weeks (everything was fine and I saw my heart beating). Today, I am 11 weeks pregnant and I don't plan on getting another ultra sound until 20 weeks. Lately, I've been worried that my baby is not alive, but I can't help the feeling. I've been spotting on and off (very light flow brown)since my last pap smear at 8 weeks. I take my prenatal vitamins everyday, but I take tylenol when my back pain is very very bad. I took 4 sudafed tablets for my allergies a week ago (I took 2 one day and 2 the next day). I asked my Dr. if i can continue to take them, and she said not until 12 weeks, but I can take Zyrtec or Benedryl before 12 weeks. I havent taken any pills because I think already harmed my baby. Can my baby die in my womb based off my particular story? Other than my high blood pressure I am totally healthy. HOW DO I KNOW IF MY BABY IS STILL ALIVE AND GROWING NORMALY?? I still have sore nipples, nausea sometimes HELP please. TYPO: I saw my baby's heart beating at 8 weeks.

- Open Question: Tell before or after?
(Sat, 15 Sep 2007 20:41:34 GMT)
Prenatal : I have some intreviews coming up this week (the jobs include no heavy lifting, and except for fatigue I feel wonderful during this pregnancy). I was wondering should I tell them during the interview or wait until the probationary period is over or till I"m alteast there long enough to draw unemployement. I had a job but had to quit then found out I was pregnant a few days later. I would like to work till the baby is born and have some money saved up. Plus my oldest is in school so I'm going stir crazy at home right now... Anyway I was wondering if legally I had to tell. I'm 10 weeks, and showing a bit, but can work myclothes so that I just look fat (:P). I have put on the application that i need mondays off, thats the days that the doctor does the prenatal appoitnments so I wouldn't be calling in for them. I worked with my daughter till a week before I had her. What would you do. Come clean at the interview or wait till you were really showing or had to tell?
- Open Question: when to tell?
(Sat, 15 Sep 2007 19:08:27 GMT)
Prenatal : Your employer or prospective employer that you are pregnant. I had quit my other job due to sheduling conflicts, then found out I was pregnant a few days later. I would really like to work till the baby is born, then I'm going to be a SAHM..But would like to save up some money you know before the baby is born. I have a couple of intreviews this week. I'm 10 weeks along. Showing a little (with my daughter I didn't show till I was 7 months along) but I figure if I wear bigger/looser clothes I'll just look alittle overweight. Do I have to tell them at the interview that I'm pregnant. Or can I wait till I'm through the probationary period to tell them? I'm not sick or anything this time (THANK GOD) so I won't be missing work and already put on the applications that I need the days off for appointments, just put I coudn't work mondays which is when my OB does the prenatal appointments. Any advice is appericated. The jobs I'm applying for are mostly office type jobs and the heavest lifting would be 15 pounds at the most. Thanks for the advice so far.
- Resolved Question: For all u ladies ttc: Here's how to get pregnant. Follow these 10 tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
(Sat, 15 Sep 2007 19:04:21 GMT)
Prenatal : 1. Have sex three times a week. Having regular sex is the best way to get pregnant. Couples often try to time everything perfectly for ovulation but do not have sex when they think they are not ovulating. It is true that sex that is not within the time of ovulation will not result in pregnancy. However, because women do not always ovulate when they think they will, having sex three times a week will help to a woman cover her bases, so to speak, and not miss an opportunity to get pregnant. 2. Use an ovulation prediction kit or fertility monitor. Using an ovulation kit to predict when you are ovulating will improve your chances of getting pregnant. For many women charting or other methods of ovulation prediction are too confusing. Ovulation prediction kits work by reading LH surges prior to ovulation. They are relatively easy to use and are generally accurate for predicting ovulation. Fertility monitors, such as the Clear Blue Easy monitor, are also a worthwhile investment if you would like to get pregnant faster. Fertility monitors are similar to ovulation prediction kits in that they read changes in LH but they also read changes in other hormones and donâ??t require any guesswork for couples. They are easy to use and will tell you when the best time to get pregnant is. 3. Have sex before ovulation (not after). Sometimes couples get confused about the best time to have sex in relationship to ovulation. You have a small window of time each month to get pregnant. After a woman ovulates the egg will survive approximately 24 hours. Sperm, on the other hand, will live for up to three to five days. This is why having sex two to three days before ovulation will increase your chances of getting pregnant. Donâ??t wait until the day you ovulate to have sex. Your partnerâ??s sperm will last longer than your egg and you donâ??t want to miss an opportunity by waiting. 4. Donâ??t rely on the Calendar method for predicting ovulation. A lot of couples have heard to have sex around day fourteen of your cycle. This is based on the calendar method and assumes that you have a regular 28-day cycle and ovulate mid-cycle. Although this is better than just picking an arbitrary day to have sex, it is not a very accurate way to predict when you ovulate. Many women do not ovulate on day fourteen and knowing precisely when you ovulate will help you time intercourse better. Ovulation prediction kits, looking at previous months bbt charts, or watching for body cues will help you to determine when you ovulate. 5. Charting may not be the best way to predict ovulation. Charting is great for tracking your cycle but it does have disadvantages. By the time you can see ovulation on a bbt chart, you have already ovulated. It is good to chart so you can track your cycles, see if you ovulate the same time each month, and also so you can look back on your cycle and see if you timed things right. But if this is your first cycle trying to get pregnant or if you are not ovulating at the same time each month, an ovulation prediction kit would be more helpful. 6. See a doctor before you start trying to get pregnant. Make sure you are in good health and have had a regular check up from your OBGYN or medical provider. Untreated infections, sexually transmitted diseases, or poor health can affect your chances of getting pregnant. Its good to see a doctor as well as start taking prenatal vitamins prior to trying to conceive. 7. Donâ??t smoke, drink alcohol, or abuse drugs when trying to get pregnant. This may seem like common sense but many women do try to get pregnant while smoking, drinking or using drugs. Smoking, drugs, and alcohol can affect your fertility. It will also affect your unborn child. It is important to stop smoking or using drugs and alcohol before getting pregnant and not wait until you find out you are pregnant. 8. Have enjoyable sex. Sometimes when couples are trying to conceive, sex becomes a job or function of reproduction and is not as enjoyable. Plan a romantic evening or try something different to spice things up. How you are feeling sexually may factor into your chances of getting pregnant. Some researchers believe that having an orgasm during sex increases your chances of getting pregnant. For women, the spasmic movements of orgasm will help pull the sperm into the uterus and for men a better orgasm may increase the manâ??s sperm count. 9. Have sex in positions that keep sperm inside the vagina longer. The missionary position is a good position to use when trying to get pregnant. Avoid positions where the woman is on top. Gravity will allow sperm to leak out with these positions. Also try placing a pillow under your hips to help tilt your pelvis and keep the sperm in longer. Donâ??t get up right after sex. Try to relax and allow the sperm to stay in the vagina as long as possible. 10. There is no such thing as trying too hard to get pregnant. Most couples get pregnant within a year of trying. If you have not gotten pregnant within a year consult your doctor for advice.

- Open Question: Pregnant and stomach pain in the night?
(Sat, 15 Sep 2007 05:49:10 GMT)
Prenatal : Hi all.. I am about 3 to 4 weeks gestation. During the past two or three days I had severe pain in my stomache. This happened during night. Like I would wake up in the middle of the night with the pain. Last night it was lower abdomen. It went away after about 10 min may be. I have constipation also. Like I don't go to the toilet everyday, but bowel movement is not hard because there is a laxative in my prenatal vitamin. Just wondering what it is. I have had stomach pains earlier also which I know is normal. And I thought those pains are over by this stage. And one more thing, I take my prenatal vitamin and DHA capsule just before i go to bed. Do you think the pain has something to with that?

- Resolved Question: Getting a blood test to confirm pregnancy...?
(Thu, 13 Sep 2007 20:57:02 GMT)
Prenatal : Obviously I go to the gynecologist once a year for my check up. In August at my yearly check up I told her that we were trying. Since they don't do prenatal care, do i need to call them to get a blood test, or will I need to find a doctor who does do pre-natal care and delivery and ask them for a test? Im thinking I should call my gynecologist office and see if they can refer me to anyone...does that sound like what should do. I have never had a child so I am kinda new at learning how this works.

- Resolved Question: Are there any ways to increase my chances of conceiving?(I have special circumstances)?
(Thu, 13 Sep 2007 05:57:37 GMT)
Prenatal : At 22 years of age I was diagnosed with bipolar. My spouse and I have decided to try to conceive and we have been very responsible about the prenatal care that is needed, but I actually have a time limit of 3 months to conceive in before my doctor puts me back on my medication so that I do not risk being hospitalized for a forth time, So I am just wondering if there are any fool proof ways that anyone has heard of to speed up the likliness of conceiving? I have bought a bbt thermometor and I'm taking prenatal vitamins.

- Resolved Question: 22 weeks pregnant. Go to ER or L&D? Alternatives?
(Wed, 12 Sep 2007 23:36:08 GMT)
Prenatal : Here I am 22 weeks into my pregnancy and have had minimal prenatal care. I've been in the "process" of applying for Medicaid now since JULY! They tell me today that they DENIED my application b/c my "pregnancy hasn't been verified." The proof from the Doctor with my Due Date on it (as they require) was turned in with my original application in July. I have been having really painful spasms in my back and I've miscarried during my 2nd trimester of pregnancy TWICE now. The last time was just a little over 9 months ago. I have no insurance. I'm not registered to deliver with any hospital. I don't have a DR. I have no idea if I am still carrying a live baby or what is going on with my body at this point. Some people have told me to go to the ER. Others have told me to go to a L&D instead. I'm wondering if anyone knows if I can just walk into any old L&D and get service? If so, WHAT DO I SAY? Will they do an ultrasound and tell me what's going on? Would L&D even see me? Thanks! To Laura S. The state office didn't tell me until today that they don't have the verification. I brought it to them and left it with them when I applied to begin with. They have it. They made me wait 45 days and denied me for no reason. I was expecting to get an approval from them back in early August and every time I called they said they have 45 days to process. Well today has been 45 days and I haven't heard anything from them. So I called again. They said they denied it because they don't have the DR note. I told them that they do to have it, and they said they'll have the case worker call me back in the next few days. They could have had the courtesy to tell me last month that they needed a document, or actually have checked their documents to see that they have it. Instead they waited until the final day to decide that I don't have the opportunity to provide anything. I hope that makes more sense.
